New Music

Welcome to one of the most acclaimed centers for new music in the country!

Our history of nurturing young talent and promoting new work is world renowned, and we are pleased that so many skilled and nationally recognized composers call Minnesota their home. The task of narrowing our choices for the 2008 convention was especially difficult, but we are delighted to announce an exciting list of eleven commissions that we believe will mark this convention as one of the best.

Of great importance to us was the need for new works that could be used within the worship setting, and so the majority of these pieces will be premiered in that context. Major commissions are listed below. Six new works for organ and instruments will be published in the MN Organ Book.

On behalf of the entire New Music Committee, welcome to Minnesota!

John Nuechterlein
President, American Composers Forum
Chair, New Music Committee AGO 2008

Major commissions will be featured by five world-renowned composers:

Judith Bingham

Jaakko Mäntyjärvi
And hit a world, at every plunge

Libby Larsen

These works and their premiere performances are made possible, in part, by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
