M38 The Legacy of Paul Manz
Students of Dr. Paul Manz share stories and musical insights into the legacy of the work of Paul Manz. He had a profound impact on hymn singing. The effect of Manz’s work grew and expanded at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (a modest congregation in south Minneapolis) and spiraled out to nearly every corner of the nation and beyond through his hymn festivals and teaching. For a half-century, assemblies of people crowded into worship spaces to sing under his leadership. What was it about his work that made these experiences so profound? What was he teaching through his example that we can bring to our work as organists?
Presenter: David Cherwien, Jane Kriel Horn, and Scott Hyslop
