T10 Hinshaw Music Inc. Choral Music Reading Session
Location: Hilton - Conrad B/C

T11 Mendelssohn as American Hymnodist
Across the English-speaking world, the nineteenth century witnessed the rapid rise and gentle decline of a sensational vogue for appropriating melodies from European art music for use as hymn tunes. The music of Felix Mendelssohn—a perennial favorite in the emerging American classical music scene—enjoyed a particularly robust reception in this arena, which he entered at a moment when hymns comprised the most commercially successful genre of American popular song. This workshop will explore Mendelssohn’s role in nineteenth-century American hymnody, surveying over fifty such arrangements of his work and exploring the variegated, often surprisingly subtle, manner of their adaptation.
Presenter: Peter Mercer-Taylor
Location: Hilton - Hennepin & Carver

T12 The Well-Tempered Regional Convention
This workshop is designed to give an overview of the entire process of hosting a Regional Convention. All elements of planning and organization will be discussed, from the beginning bid process to the completion of the final report. A well-conceived convention benefits the entire regional membership. It increases visibility for the organ in the community and energizes the host chapter, often generating funds that support Guild and chapter projects for years to come.
Presenters: Ron Krebs, Director of the AGO Regional Convention Committee; Janet Griffin and Al Adcock, Committee members; Dennis Elwell, AGO National Councillor for Conventions
Location: Hilton - Conrad D

T14 Acoustic Design and the Pipe Organ
The design of reverberant space to support choir and organ is a challenge well worth the effort. Issues of clarity, spatial envelopment, tone quality, ensemble, flexibility of use, and noise control are magnified as reverberation time increases. Modern construction vocabularies and building forms present additional challenges, especially for the pipe organ. The acoustician plays a central role in developing the artistic and functional interests of the music program as an integral part of the architectural design. This workshop will review recent organ projects, including St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Greenville, North Carolina and Augustana Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Presenter: Dana Kirkegaard (Kirkegaard Acoustic Design LLC)
